Same Kind of Different As Me Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Oprah know about your book?
A: Judging by the letters and e-mails we receive from people who have read our book and felt the need to contact Oprah, I can only guess she has at least 500 copies in her mail room trash bin! So the answer is, if she doesn't know about it she has a wall of insulation around her thicker than a nuclear reactor!

Q: Any movie offers?
A:
Yes, we've had more than twenty inquiries from screenwriters, film makers and producers.  We have signed a contract with Mark Clayman, the producer of PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS.  With the screen-writer's strike in the spring and now the impending actor's strike progress has been slow, but it is still "go"
when all of this ends.

Q: Where does Denver live now?
A: Since March 2002 Denver and I live in Dallas in separate houses on the same property.

Q: What is Denver’s life like now?
A:
He travels the country speaking and when in Dallas he paints and works with the homeless.  And in answer to many questions that have been asked...YES, Denver can now read.  Actually, he is a very good reader, but his spelling needs work.  Ron's "Aunt Vida" that typed the manuscript for our book taught him to read and his numbers in the summer of 2005.

Q: How do the homeless benefit from your book?
A:
All royalties earned by Ron bypass him and are paid directly to the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County in Fort Worth.

Q: How can we help Miss Debbie’s cause for homeless?
A:
Get involved locally both financially and as a volunteer when available.   We are not trying to take money out of local communities.  Support those who are called and trained to work with the homeless. For those of you who feel compelled to make donations to the Union Gospel Mission in Debbie and Denver’s honor the address is:
The Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County, c/o Don Shisler, PO Box 2144, Fort Worth, TX 76113

Q: What do I do if a homeless person asks me for money?
A:
If God puts it on your heart to respond, then give them money and don't judge them for what they do with it...that's God's job and you will receive the blessing.

Q: Who is Lynn Vincent?
A:
Lynn is a published author and reporter for WORLD MAGAZINE. She was hired by Thomas Nelson to help me edit and re-write our original manuscript.  I had written it 13 times by myself and didn't have the energy to do it one more time.

Q: Are Denver and Ron available for speaking engagements?
A: Thanks so much to everyone for the hundreds of invitations to speak all across America but we are taking June, July and Augst of 2008 off to rest and refresh after an exhausting two years on the road.  As of June 1st we already have 15 events scheduled for the fall.  We will consider a select few large city-wide fund raisers for the homeless during the fall of 2008 that are committed to raise a minimum of $200,000 at their event.  Our speaking fee is $4000 plus travel expenses

Q: Are you still in the art business?
A:
Yes, however my son Carson, runs that part of my life as the book now dominates my time.  We are always interested in buying and selling museum quality paintings and sculptures by American and European Masters of the 19th and 20th Century.  We are not a gallery and therefore, we do not represent any living artist or give advice to artists on how to market their work.

Q: Are you writing another book?
A:
Hopefully, when I find the time.  The paperback version came out on March 13, 2008 and has photos and a Reader's Guide that was not included in the hardcover.  With the overwhelming sale of it we made the New York Times' Best Sellers List for the first time in April.

Q: What happened to the Calder Sculpture?
A:
It is now in the Olympic Sculpture Park in downtown Seattle, a gift of former Microsoft executive Jon Shirley, and his wife Mary.

Q: Where are Ron’s children?
A:
My son Carson and his wife Megan and my daughter Regan and her husband Matt all live in Dallas just three blocks from each other. Regan and Matt have two daughters, Griffin, born December 28, 2005, and Sadie Jane born May 25, 2007.  Carson and Megan's first baby, a daughter named Kendall Deborah Hall, was born November 27, 2007.

Q: Where do I see and purchase Denver’s art?
A:
"Aunt" Vida sold over 120 pieces of 'Denver's Art' from this website before it got to be more than she could handle with all of her other duties.  So something had to go...the bookkeeping and speaking schedules or D's art...Ron chose D's art.  His work is now being shown at The Cerulean Gallery in Dallas which is located at 6609-A Hillcrest Avenue.  The gallery owner, Caroline Crockett, has had two very successful shows for Denver and usually has his art continuously hanging in h
